What To Do If Your Engine In Your Car Needs To Be Replaced

Keeping your car running properly is important. If the car is not very dependable, it can be more of a burden than a convenience and over time, an engine that is not maintained can start to break down or have problems that are expensive to repair. If the engine does fail, there are some things you will need to consider before you decide what you will do.

Evaluating The Damage

When the engine in the car stops running, the first thing you will need to do is get the problem diagnosed so that you can determine whether or not this is a catastrophic failure. In some cases, a small part my keep the entire engine from running and replacing the entire engine because of a bad coil pack does not make sense. Take the car to a garage that can thoroughly diagnose the problem for you and give you a solid estimate of the cost to repair it. If the engine needs to be replaced, the cost is going to be much higher but you need to know what has to be done before you can decide if the car is worth the effort or not.

Replacing The Engine

If you do need to replace the entire engine because of severe damage inside the block, you may want to consider a remanufactured engine to save some cost. A remanufactured engine is basically an engine that was disassembled, cleaned, painted, and has all the parts replaced inside it. It is essentially new inside, but the cost is cheaper than buying a completely new engine because the engine block and heads are reused after being completely refreshed by the engine rebuilder. these rebuilt engines, such as a Hyundai Sonata engine, are available from some auto parts dealers and directly through the rebuilder, but you might have to do a little research on the internet to find one that has what you need.

OE Replacement Engines

Another option is to replace the engine with an Original Equipment, or OE engine. These are engines that are purchased from a dealer and are sent to them from the factory. These engines are new and are the engine that would be going in a car at the factory when it is assembled. The cost is going to be higher than a remanufactured engine but you are getting a factory original engine with a warranty and no surprises. Not everyone will want to spend the amount of money that these engines cost for a used car but if your car is just a couple years old, it might be an option you want to consider.
